How to identify save and reliable lithium-ion-based secondary cells
In order to ensure the safe and reliable operation of stationary energy storage systems (ESS) using lithium-ion-based batteries the selection of the suitable cells and modules is a key prerequisite. In order to provide guidance for manufacturers and OEM’s the international standard IEC 62619:2017 was created. In this presentation the specific requirements and tests for cells and battery systems with regard to safety and reliability are discussed in detail.
Dr. Axel Metz received a master of science degree in Applied Physics. He performed his Ph.D. research on crystalline silicon solar cells at the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin/Emmerthal (ISFH). For more than 10 years he was with SCHOTT Solar as director R&D solar cells. Later he served as managing director of h.a.l.m. elektronik GmbH, a worldwide leading supplier of PV tester equipment. Currently he is heading the business area energy storage systems at VDE Renewables GmbH.
