Electromobility in a low-volume context: Frauscher builds electric pleasure boats since 1955
Frauscher builds electric pleasure boats since 1955 due to legislation prohibiting the use of combustion engines on lakes in Austria and Southern Germany. With the low volume of the overall market compared to the car industry (boats in general and electric boats in particular) Frauscher faces very specific challenges in adapting readily available solutions for this demanding application. With the dawn of high-end electric cars like Tesla clients have ever higher expectations in the power, range and usability of electric boats as well. The lecture tells how Frauscher meets this challenges while explaining the different technical platforms used in detail. A second focus will cover accompanying symptons like the stunted infrastructure in marinas or the challenge with maintaining and upgrading the state-of-the art electric boats of years past.
