Material and Component Development for Thermal Energy Storage
Thr joint IEA activity ECES Annex 33 / SHC Task 58 tries to support an application oriented development of innovative materials for latent and thermochemical thermal energy storage (TES) - Phase Change Materials (PCM) and Thermochemical materials (TCM). The key objectives are: Mapping and evaluating the TES application opportunities concerning the requirements for the storage material; development and characterisation of storage materials to enhance TES performance; development of material characterisation procedures and methodologies for material testing under application conditions; characterisation and development of components for compact TES systems.
Christoph Rathgeber has been working in the Thermal Energy Storage group at the Bavarian Institute for Applied Energy Research (ZAE Bayern) since 2010. His main research area is Phase Change Material development and characterisation. Since 2015, he has been working as a PhD student on the calculation of solid-liquid phase diagrams of salt hydrate mixtures. In the framework of ECES Annex 33, he is leading the Subtask “PCM testing under application conditions”.
